New green group created in Gwangju–fundraiser on June 1

Two teachers in Gwangju have started a new project, Green Seed EAEP, a program aimed to teach school children how to take care of their community and the world.

Canadians Andrea Hildebrand and Trevor Homeniuk, along with their Korean interpreter Ko Namil, will visit a classroom in Gwangju on a voluntary basis on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

An informative discussion about important environmental issues, interactive games and activities, art, crafts, letter-writing, a puppet show, music, and an opportunity to create a piece of art that will be part of a collaborative exhibition will keep the students engaged and inspired during the visit.

The program will be presented during regular Saturday school scheduling in elementary schools here in Gwangju starting in June. Gwangju Teachers should stay tuned to see how they can take part.

But the program is looking to raise money and will hold a fundraiser on Tuesday, June 1 at 8:30 p.m. in Gwangju at New York in the Kitchen.

Andrea and Trevor will play three intimate, acoustic sets – sans amplification – and will request a small, 5000 won cover charge to enter. Wine and beer will be sold inexpensively, and Andrea will sell some of her illustrations also.

All of the funds raised during the event will be administered transparently by the Gwangju International Centre for GREEN SEED’s ongoing expenses.
